GENEROSITY

“Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.”
2 Corinthians 9:6

We are a community of generous people. Our time, talents, resources, and even our hearts—with everything we have, we give generously. Often times when we hear the word generosity we tend to come to the preconceived notion that generosity can only be expressed through financial means. Here at Collide City Church, generosity means so much more than money. We believe that God is incredibly generous and our desire is to be like Him. So when it comes to forgiveness, we generously forgive. When it comes to serving, we generously serve. We have made it our mission to express the kind of generosity that Jesus has called us to. We are extra mile Christ followers (Matt. 5:41)

When we talk about generosity, what do we mean exactly? In our church culture, generosity compels us to go above and beyond the standard. So when someone needs grace, we do more than just sprinkle a little grace their way. Here at Collide City Church we desire each of our family members to radically express the character of Christ when it comes to giving. Christ gave forgiveness, grace, and compassion with no consideration of what it would cost Him. We even see this in the miracle of the fish and loaves of bread (Matt. 14:13-21). Jesus could have fed the masses and made just enough to where there were no leftovers. But as is His nature, Christs made so much food through this miracle that the disciples had baskets of leftovers. Why would Jesus do that? Because His heart is extravagant.

We often find ourselves giving just enough as human beings because our fear of being taken advantage of, or our fear that if we give too much, we won’t have enough for ourselves. Jesus did not carry this same mindset. You see, it was impossible to take that which Jesus was so freely willing to give (John 10:18). And secondly, Jesus would never be afraid of running out, because Jesus knows that in the kingdom there is always seed for the sower (2 Corin. 9:10).

We believe we are simply stewards of the resources the God has blessed us with. Whether it is our time, heart, or finances, we believe that none of what we have belongs to us. It all belongs to the Lord. And with that, we can trust that we can never out give God.

Our motivation to give is never to receive, but always to be a blessing. Nonetheless, there are promises that come with giving, and we believe, just as the scriptures declare that we are more blessed to give than we are to receive (Acts 20:35). The word is full of promises for those who choose to give generously. We trust that as tithe giving members of the Body of Christ, God has always, and will always open the windows of Heaven to bless His people (Malachi 3:10).

We hope that as you visit our church, that you will overwhelmingly experience the spirit of generosity.
